Units scramble to grass fire

Update: 2.55pm

SIX trucks attended the grass fire at Bunya Hwy & Grants Rd, Memerambi this morning.

Contractors using machinery assisted Queensland Fire and Rescue to create a fire break.

Responding units carried out some additional minor back burning to assist in bringing the grass fire under control.

Although the units remained on site for several hours the initial blaze was brought under control within 20 minutes.

Initial report: 10.53am

FOUR fire units have just responded to a small grass fire on the rail corridor at Memerambi.

Area commander Mark Long said the four units are "a bit of a precaution" because of the windy conditions this morning.

"We want to make sure it is brought under control quickly," he said.

It is the second grass fire at Memerambi in a week.
