Van collides with truck killing one south of Home Hill

A MALE tourist has been killed after his van collided with a truck south of Home Hill overnight.

Emergency services were called to the accident which was located 5km south of Home Hill at about 9.20pm.

The European man, who was the passenger of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver of the van was transported to Ayr Hospital in a critical condition.

The male driver of the truck was treated for shock.

A police spokesman said both men who were travelling in the van were backpackers.

"They were over here on holiday," he said.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
