‘Very upsetting’: Small jeweller targeted in heist

A SMALL Sunshine Coast jewellery store is this week picking up the pieces after their hinterland business targeted in a brazen theft early Monday morning.

Thieves broke into Maleny Jewellers, in the Riverside Centre on Maple St, and took off with multiple valuable pieces of stock.

CCTV from the store shows a hooded man carrying what appears to be a bat outside the store.

"In these already tough times, this has been very upsetting," owners said.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said two men wearing hoodies and gloves smashed through the front of the business about 3am.

"They smashed the front window and a further locked glass display cabinet, where they removed some jewellery and left," the spokeswoman said.

Owners Jim and Sandra Goulton, who have been running Maleny Jewellers for 20 years, assured customers that only stock was stolen and any repairs or personal items were locked away and untouched.

"Thank you to the community for your support in this time," they said.

Police are investigating and anyone with information is being urged to come forward.
