Victory and defeat as Burnett teams host Gympie

CRICKET: The Gympie Colts proved to be too strong for the Southern District Devils with the visitors taking the win in Kingaroy on Saturday.

The Gympie side won the toss and elected to bat making 180 runs before being all-out with two overs remaining in the innings.

Tyler Heness was the top wicket taker for the Devils dismissing three batsmen followed by Kieran Askin and Jayden Heness who claimed two wickets each.

Lleyton Brown was the best with the bat for the Devils with 39 runs off 63 balls but the Colts were too strong with the ball dismissing the home side for 142 runs in 34.4 overs to take the victory.

In Murgon the Crusaders played host to the Gympie Valleys.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat.

Jason Webber was the Crusaders most economic bowler claiming two wickets for six runs off 7.3 overs including five maidens.

Shane Polzin, Graham Brown and Jamian Currin also claimed two wickets each to dismiss the Colts for 99 runs in 35.2 overs.

The home side made the required runs in 24 overs with Allen Ledger leading the way with 30 runs.

The Murgon team are yet to be defeated this season with four fixture games remaining in the season.

From the start of the 2018/19 season the Crusaders have had their sights on becoming back to back one day champions in their second season in the Gympie Cricket Association A-grade competition.

On Saturday the South Burnett sides will travel to Gympie.

The Crusaders will take on the Colts at Spencer Oval and the Devils will face Western Gympie.
