Wallabies back to give Brumbies boost

THE Brumbies might have lost their last three clashes against the Waratahs, including the round six encounter when they were 'mugged' 28-13 in Sydney, but history is on their side for tonight's rematch in Canberra.

The Tahs have won just twice in Canberra since the Super Rugby competition started in 1996.

As well as having the home-ground advantage, the Brumbies have regained Wallaby lock Sam Carter (pictured) after he was granted personal leave from last week's win over the Highlanders.

Fellow Wallaby Ben Alexander also returns to the starting line-up after coming off the bench last week, while utility back James Dargaville (foot) has been named as a reserve after missing the past month.

Head coach Stephen Larkham said his team always enjoyed taking on their arch rivals.

"We're really looking forward to this match. The Waratahs have managed to win the last three against us, but we have done everything right this week to change that trend," Larkham said.

"We always have a fiery battle with them, historically there's always a lot of passion in these games."

Meanwhile, Wycliff Palu will return for the Waratahs in the only change to the side that beat the Melbourne Rebels last week, replacing veteran Mitch Chapman.

In tonight's other game to kick off round 12, the Highlanders will host the Sharks in Dunedin.

Round 12 draw (home teams first): Highlanders v Sharks, Brumbies v Waratahs, Blues v Force, Hurricanes v Crusaders, Rebels v Chiefs, Cheetahs v Stormers, Bulls v Lions.
