Warning issued over Woodford festival ticket scam

WOODFORD Folk Festival organisers have warned a counterfeit ticket scam is offering people cheap entry to the event.

Festival organiser Bill Hauritz said several sources had made him aware of the scam, which had been a problem in previous years.

"Every year scammers have sold tickets to innocent people on the promises of cheaper entry," Mr Hauritz said.
"These people have been duped and have lost their money.

"We have a rigid system of checking tickets both with bar coded paper/electronic tickets and visual checks for false festival wristbands."

Mr Hauritz said the only legitimate tickets were those purchased through the festival's online website and at the festival gate.

Fence jumping became a craze at festivals around the world in the 90s that lead to the closure of England's Glastonbury Festival for a year while a massive permanent fence was built.

"Fence jumping not only questions the integrity of our financial survival, it compromises the comfort level of our beloved patrons."

"The problem with the trend in fence jumping is that people see it as a fun, cheap way to get in, but the absolute truth is that it amounts to theft and should be treated accordingly.

"We are strengthening our security this year."

"We are absolutely delighted that the Qld Police, disturbed by trends at festivals, have introduced an Infringement Notice which can be issued at festival to fence jumpers.

"The Infringement Notice is accompanied by a $227 fine along with being escorted off the property."
