Watkins takes memorable shot at Kumbia golf course
YASHA Watkins took one her most memorable shots at the Kumbia golf course last Saturday.
But it was no golf shot.
Instead it was a photograph of a glider which outlanded on the fairway midway through the Kumbia Mug competition.
"We watched it (the glider) come down," Watkins said.
"He came down on the seventh fairway, which is a par 4, and finished on the third.
"Luckily no one was actually playing at the time."
After a while a tow plane landed and launched the glider back into the air.
But Watkins said a golf buggy crossed the fairway upon the plane's first approach and forced it to abort its first landing attempt.
"I've been living up here for four years and I've never seen anything like it before," she said.
Watkins' round of golf was made all the more memorable after she won the event.
"I won the lot," she said.
"I beat the blokes by five shots."
