THE wife of a wealthy WA mining executive has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for receiving more than $62,000 in social security payments she was not entitled to.

Julie Bohannan, 42, admitted repeatedly deceiving and lying to Centrelink over eight years about her surname, her relationship status and her ownership of assets.

She received a total of $62,709.85 between 2001 and 2009.

During that time, she married mining executive Hamish Bohannan, who the District Court was told received taxable income totalling more than $3.7 million between 2004 and 2009.

The court heard Julie Bohannan had paid back all the money.
