White powder scare sees hospital patients evacuated
TWELVE patients had to be evacuated from Nambour General Hospital this morning following the discovery of a package containing a suspicious white powder.
The package was discovered about 9am.
Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service Interim Chief Operating Officer Karen Roach said the emergency response procedure was activated immediately.
"As a result twelve patients were evacuated as a precautionary measure," Ms Roach said.
Police and fire fighters were called to the scene.
The substance was found to be non-toxic and the site was eventually cleared.
Investigations are ongoing.
