Winning My Kitchen Rules couple sizzle in Toowoomba

DAN and Steph Mulheron know their way around a kitchen.

At the weekend they proved they could serve up a feast outside as well, conducting cooking demonstrations on the barbecue at Bunnings Toowoomba.

The My Kitchen Rules winners gave shoppers a taste of some multicultural recipes, with Portuguese chicken with corn salsa, Thai beef salad and Spanish rice dish paella on the menu.

Mr Mulheron, known as the "sausage king" throughout the cooking competition, said there were some clear rules on a barbecue.

"You should never prick a sausage - all the moisture will get out. You need it to stay juicy," he said.

"You need a bit of fat, otherwise it won't be good; there won't be enough flavour in it."

The two will soon be selling their own line of gourmet sausages, and Mr Mulheron is ambitious about the venture.

"We want it to be big," he said.

"We want to start off with the sausages, then move to smoked hams, kabanas things like that."
