Woman caught twice in 10 minutes for driving disqualified

A POLICE officer caught a 28-year-old Blacks Beach woman driving disqualified twice in 10 minutes.

On February 18, about 5.30pm, police were stopped at the traffic lights at Heaths Rd and Sams Rd in Mt Pleasant when their attention was drawn to a stationary car behind them.

It's alleged the driver was observed by police using her mobile device. When police spoke to her they found her driver's licence had been disqualified by a court.

A Notice to Appear at the Mackay Magistrates Court on March 13 was issued for the offence.

However, police said that only minutes later the same driver, driving the same car, was stopped by the same officer on the Bruce Hwy a short distance from the initial interception site.

A second Notice to Appear at the Mackay Magistrates Court was issued - only this time, in addition, an immobilisation notice was issued for the vehicle and the car's registration plates were also seized.

Since the start of 2017, 56 drivers have been caught by police in the Mackay district driving while their licence was disqualified.

Driving while unlicenced is not much better - 136 drivers have been caught on district roads this year.
