MEMBERS of the Wooroolin Lions are in negotiations with South Burnett Regional Council to return the town's old train station building to a site near the rail trail.

The Lions want to use the building as an unmanned information kiosk with material about nearby farming and natural attractions

However the council has a temporary freeze on infrastructure work along the trail while it develops a master plan.

Mayor Keith Campbell said the council wanted to spend the next two years letting the trial sit as is.

"The general view is that council wants the performance of the rail trail to be monitored and to get a level of feedback from its users rather than continually spending money putting in things that may not enhance its use,” Cr Campbell said.

But there's a chance the Lions can move on the project earlier.

Cr Campbell said they could lease a block of land from the council and move the building there.

That way the council wouldn't be spending money and the club would be responsible for the new kiosk.

The council is yet to formally vote on the matter.
