THE X Factor's nice guy of soul Big T hopes to embark on an Australian tour off the back of his rising popularity on the show.

The 22-year-old, whose real name is Tangaroa Te Tai, is one of two singers remaining on the reality singing show under the mentorship of Chris Isaak.

"What I picture for myself after X Factor is definitely to start making music," he told APN.

"I'd like to get into the studio, record some original music and then I'd love to tour Australia."

The Perth-based railway yard worker survived an elimination sing-off last week against fellow New Zealand native Mahalia Simpson.

But he said landing in the bottom two was just what he needed to propel him into his Top 4 performance tonight.

"I think I needed to get a kick up the backside," he said.

"I lost the purpose of why I'm here, I was going out every week with the wrong mentality like I was going to war.

"I forgot I was meant to go out and enjoy it, and you can tell that from the last couple of weeks ever since (my performance of) Locked out of Heaven knocked my confidence a bit."

The song Isaak has chosen for his Top 4 performance will reflect Big T's newfound positivity.

"This week is going to be different and is going to be fun," he said.

"Chris is amazing. He's just been telling me to go out there and enjoy it. He said 'You can win this, just go out there and snatch it'."

But Big T's biggest competition is within the Team Isaak camp, with his fellow Under 25 Guys finalist Cyrus Villanueva tipped as the favourite to win the show.

"I don't really look at it as a competition," he said.

"I just make sure I walk off that stage having given it my best shot. Everyone in the Top 4 is an amazing artist."

The X Factor semi-finals air tonight and tomorrow at 7.30pm on Channel 7.
