Xbox Game Pass: Netflix of gaming coming to Xbox One

THE Netflix of gaming is coming to the Xbox One.

Xbox Game Pass will give gamers unlimited access to more than 100 Xbox One and backward compatible Xbox 360 games for $A10.95 a month.

Xbox One has lagged behind the PS4 in sales with SuperData reporting in January that Microsoft had sold half the number of consoles to Sony.

Sony already has its own subscription service, PlayStation Now, but it only allows you to stream titles.

Xbox Game Pass will actually allow you to download the full game directly onto your Xbox One.

"That means continuous, full-fidelity gameplay without having to worry about streaming, bandwidth or connectivity issues,'' Xbox's Phil Spencer said in a blog post on the new service.

Titles expected in the US Spring launch include Halo 5: Guardians, Saints Row IV Re-Elected, NBA 2K16, Mad Max, LEGO Batman, Mega Man Legacy Collection, Terraria, Payday 2, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, SoulCalibur II and Tekken Tag 2.

All Xbox One games in the catalog - and related add-ons - will be available to purchase at an exclusive discount for Xbox Game Pass members.

Every month new games will cycle into the subscription with some cycling out, giving you a constantly-updating library of games.

Before the service rolls, Xbox is testing with select members of the Xbox Insider Program, starting with  about 20 titles.

Xbox Live Gold members are also being given exclusive access to Xbox Game Pass prior to the program launching to the broader community.
