Yaroomba man fined for posting signs on proposed mosque

A YAROOOMBA man who taped two signs to the door of a proposed mosque at Maroochydore has been fined $1000.

Richard Bitot stuck a sign declaring "The prophet is a terrorist" and another about a Halal tax on the Church St building about 1.43pm on July 21.

The Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard the act was caught on CCTV footage streamed direct to the police station.

Prosecutor Sergeant Jamie Baker told the Maroochydore Magistrates court that police visited Bitot's address later that day and he admitted he was wrong and was remorseful for his actions.

Bitot did not appear in court this morning to answer a charge of trespass but submitted a plea of guilty in writing.

Magistrate Annette Hennessy issued a fine but did not record a conviction against Bitot, who apologised "most sincerely" in his letter.
