SATURDAY, 2.30PM: IS IT really democracy in action if there is no sausage sizzle?

Kingaroy Uniting Church elder Peter Mortimer doesn't think so.

Mr Mortimer manned the snag sale at the church polling booth this morning and watched more than 100 fly off the barbecue.

He said he had been involved with about 10 election day sausage sizzles and believed food and voting went hand-in-hand.

"I think people have a hunger to vote and a hunger to feed themselves," he said.

"They could smell them as they came through the door. I think this one has been the best one."

According to Mr Mortimer, the key to a solid sizzle a good quality snag with minimal fat.

Mr Mortimer said Kingaroy Uniting Church had a steady stream of voters from the moment gates opened at 8am.

Voters bought the last snag at 2pm.

Funds from the church's sausage sizzle and plant sale will be donated to disaster relief in Fiji following Cyclone Winston.

Mr Mortimer said he already looked forward to an Federal Election sausage sizzle later this year.
