Young man jailed for 'brutal' torture of ex-girlfriend
A MAN has been jailed for the "brutal" torture of his former partner in a domestic violence incident.
The 23 year-old was released having already served two years in custody before the matter was finalised in the District Court in Mackay yesterday.
Crown prosecutor Clayton Wallace said the man was 21 when the offences occurred in November 2013 in Mackay.
Mr Wallace did not go into detail about the nature of the offending.
However, he said it was "brutal, cowardly and protracted".
The man "set about" inflicting serious injuries on the victim.
The court was told a triple zero call was made at 12.15pm and police arrived at 12.23pm.
His offending, which lasted a couple of hours, stemmed from jealousy and only stopped when police arrived, Mr Wallace said.
The man was now on medication, had gained insight into his behaviour and was remorseful and ashamed of his actions, the court was told.
"I hope you are because it's disgusting behaviour," Judge Julie Dick said.
"This has devastated her."
He pleaded guilty and was jailed for three and a half years with the 736 days spent in custody was considered time served.
The torture was recorded as a conviction for a domestic violence offence.
