Youth wreak havoc in aircon ducts as prison locks down

UPDATE, 11.45AM:

A juvenile who scaled down the roof of a Townsville detention centre has been arrested, as four others wreak havoc through the ceiling.

Reports indicate the juveniles have busted a plumbing pipe and water was gushing from the ceiling inside the locked-down centre.

Police reported the juveniles were moving in and out of the air conditioning ducts and a man hole that connected two accommodation wings.

Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed they have treated no patients yet as multiple prison officers had to be escorted out by police.

UPDATE 10am:

Police have set up a perimeter around a Townsville juvenile detention centre as youths riot on the roof armed with metal bars.

Multiple Townsville Police officers have formed an extended boundary around the centre and called in the dog squad to patrol the area.

The youths are reportedly throwing items off the roof.

 

 

BREAKING:

Police negotiators are on their way to Cleveland Juvenile Detention Centre to break up a riot, after a fire was started inside the centre and a group of youths have armed themselves.

Fire crews have rushed to the scene after reports a fire started inside the centre.

Initial reports indicate five youths are armed with lighters and metal bats and are now on the roof of the centre.

All juvenile detainees are in lockdown inside the centre.

Police negotiators are being called in.

Townsville Fire and Emergency Services communication centre confirmed they were called to the centre at Belgian Gardens about 9am, but could not confirm the reason.

Initial reports indicate a fire stated inside the centre, reportedly by a detainee.

Queensland Police Service have been called to the area.
